And Man, are we wailin' here at AVID as we choo choo ch boogie to the wild sounds of crazy alto sax legend, Mr Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five, both new and old. The old being the original band formed way back in the mists of time during the 1940s after Louis had begun his music career with Chick Webb's hard swinging big band even further back in the late 1930s. Louis took the swing band sound and developed it into what became known as Jump Blues, a wild mix of jazz and boogie woogie of which he became the leading figure in the 1940s and 1950s. This sound would of course become the building blocks of the R&B sound that rocked the world in the late 1950s and 1960s and would lead to the birth of rock n roll. The new is a re-formed Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five on two albums the band cut between 1956-59. "Somebody Up There Digs Me" recorded in N.Y.C.in 1956 and produced by none other than Quincy Jones and featuring such jazz luminaries as Budd Johnson, Ernie Royal, Jimmy Cleveland, Wendell Marshall and Charlie Persip. "Man, We're Wailin'" features the wild man of the Hammond Organ, Jackie Davis (AMSC1202) alongside the likes of Austin Powell on tenor sax and Dorothy Smith on backing vocals. All the hits are here from Saturday Night Fish Fry; Is You Is Or Is You Ain't Ma Baby; Five Guys Named Moe; Let The Good Times Roll; Choo Choo Ch Boogie; Beans And Cornbread; Caldonia; Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens; Fat Back And Corn Likker and to help maintain the high energy; Whiskey Do Your Stuff. And after CD1 if you're not too exhausted, you can have some fun checking out these classics in their newer versions on CD2. Let The Good Times Roll!
