Hey, here's another folk follow up to our hugely successful Joan Baez: Three Classic Albums Plus set (AMSC1213) and the recently released Greenwich Village Folk - Four Classic Albums set (AMSC1471).
Here we have selected two fabulous female artists that graced the folk world in the early 1960s and were to go on to have highly successful music careers, particularly in the case of "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes" - Judy Collins who is still out there on the road preforming at 86 years of age! Here we feature Judy's first two albums which showed off her amazingly versatile and powerful voice with a more traditional folk repertoire. The progress from the more traditional debut album to a more looser sophomore set is remarkable to witness and showed the way Judy Collins' career and musical journey was heading. We are also pleased to report that our second artist, Carolyn Hester is also still out there and touring with her two daughters at the age of 88. In fact her last album with the girls, We Dream Forever was only released back in 2009! Although perhaps not as renowned as Judy Collins, Carolyn Hester was an integral part of the Greenwich Village folk scene and the political movement therein of the early 1960s. Her repertoire remained mainly folk and traditional with a political content to many of her songs. It's said that due to her musical and political preferences, she turned down the chance to become the "Mary" in "Peter Paul and…. Which would have been interesting (but made for a rather odd sounding Peter, Paul &….. Carolyn!? Hester would go on to have a long and varied career making many albums from 1958 through to 2009 and beyond. Perhaps her most famous claim to fame is being signed to Columbia Records by John Hammond and inviting a young upstart musician named Bob Dylan to play on her third album. The results of which can be heard on her Carolyn Hester 1962 release and the second album on CD2.
