Many artists down the years have moved across musical genres as their music takes them in different directions. This could not be more apt for our featured artist Jack Scott. Born in Canada where he spent the first 10 years of his life before moving to Detroit, Michigan where he spent most of his life thereafter. Here was the classic American story come to life! Born Giovanni Domenico Scarfone Jr. his family left Canada for America for a better life, settled in Detroit where Giovanni found success with the all American name of Jack Scott in a true American rags to riches story. However, of course it wasn't just the name change that led to Jacks success. Sure he had good looks but crucially he had a great voice and more importantly a lot of musical writing talent. Jack was raised on hillbilly music and found his early success during the rockabilly era and later as it morphed into rock 'n' roll through the 1950s and moved closer to the approaching pop world of the 1960s. He had many, many hits in these genres and was consequently pretty much tagged as a rockabilly rock 'n' roller during his 1950s and early 1960s singing career. However his musical talent as a fine singer and songwriter enabled him to take his career in other directions from gospel to county and on to pop as he entered the swinging 1960s and beyond. Jack Scott's musical ability enabled him to have an amazing career lasting from 1957 all through to 2019 when he sadly died at 83 years old from the effects of a heart attack.
