AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Albums series with a re-mastered 2CD second release from Helen Merrill, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.

AVID are proud to present a second set to our extensive classic jazz catalogue by the legendary jazz vocalist Helen Merrill, still with us at the gloriously ripe old age of 96 years. It's mind blowing to think, Ms. Merrill began her singing career at age 14 years and by the late 1940s when jazz was arguably at its most exciting, innovative and most popular she was singing with the likes of Earl "Fatha" Hines, Clifford Brown, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis to name but a few! In fact you can hear her performing with Hines and his band on our bonus track "A Cigarette For Company" recorded in 1953 and whose band coincidentally included one of our most recent catalogue additions, Ms. Etta Jones (AMSC1476). And of course, Clifford Brown is featured on Helen's 1955 debut album which appears on our first Helen Merrill classic albums set (AMSC1337). Across our four fine selections and bonus tracks Ms. Merrill is joined by a stellar cast of great jazz players from Earl "Fatha" Hines, Jimmy Raney, Hank Jones, Barry Galbraith, Milt Hinton to her great friend Marian McPartland, Mundell Lowe, Jo Jones, George Duvivier and even finds the legendary Ennio Morricone arranging and conducting on her Italian EP - "Sings Italian Songs" recorded in Italy in 1960 and represents our final bonus contribution to this fabulous set.
