AVID Pop presents the latest release in our Four Classic Albums Plus series with a 2CD set featuring two legendary pop performers, Brian Hyland and Johnny Tillotson, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.
Brian Hyland "The Bashful Blond" and Sealed With A Kiss"; Johnny Tillotson "Johnny Tillotson's Best", and "It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin'" plus eight bonus tracks.
16 years old in 1960, Brian Hyland got his first number one hit with the novelty song "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" going on to sell 2 million copies making the young lad an overnight pop sensation. Two more massive hits would follow in 1962, this time they would be proper pop classics "Sealed With A Kiss" and "Ginny Come Lately". All three hits are of course featured on our two fine classic album selections. Another huge hit from 1962 which we feature as a bonus track, "Warmed Over Kisses (Left Over Love)" perhaps points to the direction Brian Hyland would go on to take later in his career, that of a country music performer. Still going strong at 82 years, Brian Hyland certainly deserved his moment in the pop music firmament as our two classic albums entertainingly display.
In many ways Johnny Tillotson's music career somewhat resembled that of his AVID co-star Brian Hyland. He had a number of pop hits in the early 1960s all of which we include on our two classic albums. Among them are "True True Happiness", " Why Do I Love You So", "Pledging My Love", "Without You" and of course his biggest hit "Poetry In Motion". And as with Hyland one of his later hits, the self-penned "It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin'", a song he wrote about his fathers fight with cancer, was tailor made as a country music classic. Indeed the album of the same title he recorded and is our second featured Tillotson set was full of country classics from Hank Williams to Willie Nelson. Fittingly along with his AVID co-star, Johnny Tillotson and Brian Hyland eventually recorded together on a Christmas album in the 1990s. Sadly, Johnny Tillotson died on April 1st 2025 aged 86 years. But as with Brian Hyland, his place in the pop firmament is also secure.
