AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Albums series with a re-mastered 2CD release from Les McCann Ltd. & Lou Rawls complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.
Les McCann Ltd.:- "The Truth"; "The Shout"; "On Time" and Lou Rawls:- "Stormy Monday".
Les McCann began his career in jazz in the late 1950s with a string of albums recorded for Pacific Records. Starting his musical journey as a singer, drummer and tuba player Les went on to be a primarily a self taught jazz piano player. A spell at The Los Angeles City College also proved highly influential in his musical career. Les's early jazz career seems to have been somewhat skipped over in favour of his career in the later 1960s, 70s and beyond, where he became a cool jazz funk star and would go on to be regularly sampled by the hip hop crowd. We have gone for three of his best albums produced in the early 1960s for Pacific. On CD1 we feature two of his best sets featuring his famed Ltd. Trio, one studio and one live! While our third selection adds the incredible guitarist Joe Pass to the line up, and what an addition he makes! Our fourth selection finds Les in the company of Mr. Lou Rawls for the legendary Rawls classic album "Stormy Monday". Lou gives Les plenty of space for his piano improvisations alongside his regular trio of Leroy Vinnegar and Ron Jefferson. And of course there is the small matter of the Lou Rawls immaculate vocal performance! To be honest this was our way to find space for Lou Rawls in the incredible AVID jazz catalogue! Take a listen! Can you really blame us?
As with all AVID releases, we hope you enjoy them and check out our extensive catalogue for more great music across jazz and many other musical genres.
